The Golmud-Lhasa railway is 1142 km , about 930 km of which would have an elevation of over 4000 meters , with the highest point at 5072 meters at Tanggula railway station . It also passes the longest plateau permafrost tunnel in the world , Kunlun Mountain Tunnel ( 1686 meters ) with an elevation of 4648 meters .
